AM- oppressive humidity today (100%)- normally run more on wed am, but wanted to do what Sasha suggested -

Sasha- here are the results, they are a bit embarrassing since I  could not hold it over a mile today. I warmed up for 2 miles - here are the 1/4 mile spilts

.25 6:01 Avg HR 147 Max 163

.5  6:00 Avg HR 167 Max 170

.75 6:03 Avg HR 171 Max 173

1 6:02 Avg HR 173 Max 174

I kept going but could not hold the pace @ 6 any more- humidity was brutal this morning but I am offering no excuses. Look forward to your advice.

PM- 81/82% 6.5 easy. JG thanks for commenting because after looking over so many blogs I always felt like I was the only one who would lose it like that, not to mention so many fast people here! The 5th split, I was around 6:20 at 1/8th mile in and knew I could not get it back down so I slowed up into easy mode.

That is about like me Dan, one solid 6:00 mile, then I am pretty much spent, especially in high humidity. Did you do this at a track? Are you not going to tell us what the 5th split was? or did you decide to stop running hard & not push the pace on it?

What's the rest time in between?

From Dan on Wed, Jun 22, 2011 at 23:51:04 from 24.209.83.20

Those are just 1/4 splits with avg pace listed, no rest time in between- might look deceiving.

I wouldn't sweat it, my advice would be to try it again & see how long you can hold a 6:15 pace, that would get you a 19:30 5k, which I think is in your wheelhouse! Might not happen in a training run, but with race day fueling/adrenalin, I bet you can. Try to hold it for 3 miles, if you can't, keep pushing for 3 and see what the drop off is and at what point. Speed will come with time.
