After a rough start to the day, I figured I would try a med-long to long run in the middle of the day. I knew it was hot, but I thought I was going to suck it up. 93/60% Heat Index 105 degrees... So after a quick 1st mile I ran the next 3 at MP. I kept looping so I could grab sips of water. At mile 4 I started to slow down and by mile 5 my face was very hot. I ran a cool down to end at 6 miles. Bummer.

9m- 7 miles- 8:20/ - did not push faster due to the heat index still near 100, but since the sun was down it was much more tolerable. So enough weather, I had some fun in the kitchen with black rice, sweet potatoes, chicken, pork, peppers from the garden, onions and bacon....  Dessert was great- if you ever had a 'Blondie' from Applebee's, I make something called a'Brunette' - its similar, but I use dark chocolate instead of white - and chocolate/carmel instead of just carmel.

Great, now I'm hungry. Lol Props f

or even attempting a run in the middle of the day. It was though for me just walking around at work

No shame in cutting off a run when it's that hot. You still got in some good mileage for the day, nice going.

I don't know how you do it in the heat! I ran in 90 degrees for 4 miles and thought I was going to puke! haha!

Thanks guys- I feel like my marathon is right around the corner and although I am in shape to run it, I really want to PR by quite a bit and runs like this put me in serious doubt.

I'm with you Dan...I want to BQ on my next marathon but at this point I'm not even sure I could finish a marathon. I don't really know what to expect in this heat. Last year I was only running about 20 miles a week in July so I don't have anything to compare my current runs to. I need to sign up for TOU (or some marathon before Sep. 17) but can't seem to muster up the confidence.

From Steam8 on Mon, Jul 25, 2011 at 10:52:33 from 166.70.55.77

When is your marathon Dan? I don't know why you guys are doubting yourselves! Sign up and give it all you've got! The race days are always so different from any training day. I always run so much faster during a race and the week after I don't know how I did it. Sign up! You can do it! I guess I am just coming off of a high from my last race. I am in crappy shape and ran 7:31 min miles for 13......it was a miracle! ha! It must have been the avocado pie!

You better give the the Brunette recipe....just think how much faster that would make me run!

From Dan on Mon, Jul 25, 2011 at 22:52:27 from 24.209.83.20

IJR- I understand your feelings, I say bite the bullet and sign up, you have had some great miles so far and I think you will do well. :)

Steamy- Hey I have already been registered for some time for the air force marathon. It's on Sept 17th. I would beg you people to join me, but its all full! I will be hoping for some race day magic... but even if I don't pr I am figuring out that all will be well either way. Thanks for your positive energy! You want me to PM that recipe too?
