A bit windy and a slight chill, but overall an ok day to run. Felt decent, just plugged away at some base miles. Busy night tonight, lots to do, yet I find myself watching Dr Who with the girls...

I like the new Dr. Who as well. But I grew up on Tom Baker - to me he will always be the "real" Dr. Who. I guess that shows how old I am. :-)

Dan, what race is next on your schedule?

From Dan on Mon, Jan 31, 2011 at 20:56:05 from 24.209.83.20

Ha! I grew up watching Tom Baker as Dr Who and he will always be my favorite - but the new ones are fun with the fam.

I need to set some races up. I know I have a marathon (wright Patt) mid Sept. I am also running a 2 mile race (which is crazy for me, I do not do well with short races) coming up late Feb. So short answer long means I need to schedule some races so I can get some solid training in. I was going to ask you about Steamtown as I thought of that as well.

Dan,

Steamtown - obviously I did not have a great race but many do. It is one of those races where I ask - is it a high BQ course because it is fast or because it attracts a large amount of fast runners?

It is a tricky course. I ran a couple miles of the race with a guy who had run 10 or 11 Steamtowns - he said he only got it right one time.

The downhills take a toll on the quads. By mile 20 my quads were shot and I was not running the downhills at an unreasonable pace. I had even trained mostly on hills as well. And then there are the 3 hills at the end. By the time I got to the hills there was nothing left in my quads. It is a lot tougher than they make it out to be. On the other hand, it is extremely well organized and the course is beautiful. If you choose to go don't make the decision based solely on the fact that it is supposed to be a "fast course."

Hope this helps,

David

Thanks for the low down on Steamtown. Looks like such a good race. I wonder if the hills might hurt more than help though.
