Still fighting the sickness. Muscles, legs just are sore. I can breathe so I can run. Now my youngest is very sick.

Hope you (and your youngest) get to feeling better soon!

"i can breathe so i can run." -- now there's an excellent running quote.

sorry you've been sick. take it easy, dan. feel better soon.

Sounds nasty - I think I have the same theories about sickness and running too!

From Hamdog Alum on Sun, Oct 02, 2011 at 11:14:36 from 68.185.190.140

Hope you start feeling better soon. I was reading your race report again. You finished so strong I think you could have run 4 minutes faster!

I'm assuming you are in for Boston. Are you going?

From Dan on Sun, Oct 02, 2011 at 17:20:48 from 24.209.83.20

Andrea- Thanks, she is starting to do much better. Allie- That did sounds rather dramatic, no? Joe- I have no doubt! Ham- Thanks, and I have wondered about that. If you look at my last two marathons I was able to repeat that late surge. I am never quite sure how fast to push myself in a race for fear of the dreaded bonk. I am open to any thoughts or coaching advice you have.

From Hamdog Alum on Sun, Oct 02, 2011 at 17:33:43 from 68.185.190.140

Dan - I wish I had the exact formula to race the marathon, but unfortunately I've bonked 2 of 3 marathons between miles 18-22 I've raced. In fact the only one I haven't bonked is the recent one I paced my friend in. I'm still working on a solution. I'm going to take electrolyte caps and make sure the 1st 30 minutes is conservative or right at goal pace. I think I've gotten out too hard and used up all my glycogen stores without properly replenishing out of fear of GI tract issues. I also have to admit the most avg. miles was 55 per week in training, so I'm hoping my 90's avg will make a big difference!

From flatlander on Sun, Oct 02, 2011 at 17:50:59 from 75.220.242.19

Tough runner. We have some sickness at our house and I think my turn is next. Thankfully I got my race done before it happened. I can train sick but not race.

From Dan on Sun, Oct 02, 2011 at 20:24:53 from 24.209.83.20

Flat- best after and not during or before, I could not agree more with you!

Ham- and here I was going to hire you as my coach. I tried going out slow and testing a negative split, but you read the report, I thought I needed to feel good and not just ok. Maybe I should have risked it and pushed hard. Oh, and yes, I am going to Boston- you going?

From Hamdog Alum on Sun, Oct 02, 2011 at 22:11:36 from 68.185.190.140

I'll be there Fri-Tues afternoon. We found a condo about 3 miles from the finish line.

"I can breath, so I can run" ... That's a good one :-) Maybe that should be your Blog title!

From Dan on Mon, Oct 03, 2011 at 23:30:12 from 24.209.83.20

Ham- good deal. Im in a hotel about 8 miles out, those ones at the end are too pricey. Same time frame for me.

IJR- I think I will!
