AM- Doc's. Some news I knew was coming. Left foot - plantar fasciitis. I would only casually mention the pain thinking if I didn't talk about it I could handle it, it has gotten pretty painful at times. The upper left legs fortunately is a few pulled muscles and ruptured blood vessels. So he told me two weeks off, I could bike and water run, but we would re-evaluate then. I explained I had the marathon in 9 weeks and asked if I could make it worse if I ran on it. Long story short we agreed on option B- I begin physical therapy, he allows me some minor pain meds, I keep training and deal with some of the pain. As soon as the race is over, 2 weeks off.

PM- 93/hot - 10 easy miles, had lots left in the tank at then end, if the park did not close at dark I would have been tempted to push more. Saw some deer and a baby one at that, plus some baby raccoons. Hurt early on, but as i got going it felt better.

Bummer! You know you are hardcore when the doc says take 2 weeks off & you go run 10 miles! Hope it hangs on for you!

I used some cheap gel arch supports in my non running shoes when I had plantar faciitis and it helped a lot. It completely cleared up in a week or two and probably would have even faster if I didn't keep running.

JG- thanks, if I can keep it manageable, should be alright

Trap- Thanks for the tip! If it clears up in two weeks that would be great...that will just leave me to what I am doing now, surrounding my left thigh with ice, oh the good times!

That's good that the doc at least got behind you continuing your training. I had a very similar situation last year training for my first marathon and ran through some tendonitis while taking anti-inflammatories (doc said ok)...worked out fine. Good luck, hope the pain stays minimal.

I've never had plantar fasc., but I've known plenty of others that have run with the pain. The run usually starts out with pain, but subsides after a few miles. The most important thing to consider though is the injury is probably a sign of too much running or too much work related stress with the running. I would just comfortably run a distance/pace you know for sure you can recover from within 24 hours and avoid speedwork. It sounds like you might be hitting the wall and a short reduction in training will help you break through to a new fitness level and hopefully relieve you of some pain. I'm glad the doc got behind you and didn't tell you to completely stop training.

Man...what's with all the injuries lately? It seems everyone is getting hurt. I was having some foot pain so I also started wearing gel arch supports. Now I've been running in them all the time...they feel good and take the stress off my arches. I suggest you try them. I've decided to buy me a bike on monday so I can hopfully keep training. The running is too painful right now unless I take ibuprofen.

Oh...btw, are those orange shoes you're wearing in your profile picture? I like orange :-)

Joe- thanks, I persuaded the doc some :)

Ham- Yeah I am just running comfortable, but will ramp back up. It's not the foot that bothers me so much- I can tolerate that. Its the qud/groin muscles that force me to hobble, but I am doing ok.

IJR- What bike did you buy? Sorry my shoes are red... Those are my Adizeros, I really like them though :)

Hey Dan

I haven't bought a bike yet....I've narrowed it down to a couple of options. My friend at work is (a real road racer) is going to help me make the final selection. Both are all carbon fiber road bikes. One is the same as my daughter has. She's been very happy with it. The other is similar just a different frame. I've got to do something my hip is not cooperating.
